Types of Submersible Pumps

  • Shallow well pumps – These pumps can work in shallow wells. They are domestic pumps. They can be used in Underground wells that boost water to the storey buildings.
  • Boreholes submersible Pumps – Submersible pumps that draw water from boreholes. They have narrow shaft to work in narrow boreholes.

How Does a Submersible Water Pump Work?

When the motor is started, the shaft rotates and causes a pressure difference between the inlet of the impeller and the outlet. Water enters the impeller vanes and exits though the diffuser. The diffuser converts the energy of moving water to pressure head.

Installing a Submersible Pump

When installing a submersible pump, certain factors should be considered, including.

  • Source of Power – The supply of electricity should be considered to know the length of the power cable needed.
  • Depth of the well or borehole – Submersible pumps work with a maximum depth of 150m. The depth will determine the positioning and exact depth to place the pump.
  • Volume of Water required – The volume of water required at the household should be considered for a more suitable submersible pump size.

Steps of Installing a Submersible Pump

  • Check the motor and top it up with cold and clear drinking water.
  • Check the direction of the rotation of motor shaft. It should match the direction marked on the cable box face.
  • Connect the motor to the submersible pump.
  • Connect the cable to starter terminals and avoid loose connections.
  • Connect a float switch cable to the submersible pump cable using a splicing Kit (How to Splice a pump)
  • Using a male adapter to connect the pump outlet to a delivery starter pipe.
  • Lower the submersible pump 1–2 meters above the bottom of the borehole to avoid suction of particles.
  • Attach another pipe to the starter pipe.
  • Bind the cable to the delivery or suction pipes using PVC clips.

How to Maintain Submersible water Pump

Check the pump installation after every 3 months to check on water quality, pressure of water flow and any faults.
Control the frequency of starting and running the pump to ensure the pump lasts. It should not exceed 30 per hour.
Check the motor to ensure the voltage or current supply is on a normal scale.
Confirm whether the non-return valves are operating properly.

Submersible Pump Prices in Kenya

Our prices range from KES. 15,000 to KES. 250,000.

Common Applications of Submersible Pumps

Submersible water pumps are effective since they prevent cavitation problems. For this reason, they are suitable for water supply in boreholes, wells, dams, and deep wells.
Other uses are pumping of sewage waste, industrial supply of fluids, and oil suction in mineral sites.
